Jay Green, a 5’5″ middle-aged banker and self-proclaimed sports blogger, has apparently decided that the next logical step in his basketball journey is to try out for the Swarm.
For those unfamiliar with Green’s impressive basketball résumé, here’s the scouting report:
🏀 Last organized basketball: 8th grade youth rec league
📏 Height: 5’5″ — generously measured
💪 Strength: Questionable
🏃 Speed: Also questionable
🔥 Temper: Elite level
🛡️ Defensive specialty: Fouling
🗣️ Arguing with officials: Hall of Fame potential
📈 Career high: 14 points
✂️ Middle school basketball: Actually got cut
Yes. CUT. 😂
And yet, after approximately three decades away from organized basketball, Jay has apparently decided that his basketball comeback should begin at the professional level.
His game plan is simple:
Step 1: Show up.
Step 2: Convince the coaches that 8th-grade experience still counts.
Step 3: Play lockdown defense.
Step 4: Get called for a foul.
Step 5: Argue with the referee.
Step 6: Blame the referee for the foul.
Step 7: Somehow get ejected from a tryout.
Scouts are reportedly intrigued by his combination of height, age, questionable decision-making and an unwavering belief that every foul call is wrong.
When asked about his chances of making the team, Green reportedly responded:
“I just need somebody to give me a chance.”
When reminded that he was already given a chance in middle school and got cut, Green declined further comment.
