Tiger Woods announced this week that he plans to play alongside his son Charlie at the PNC Championship beginning on December 18th. This will be Woods (45) first tour event since nearly dying 10 months ago in a single-car crash. The crash left Woods severely injured including a mangled leg. At the time it was uncertain if Woods would ever walk again, let alone play organized golf again. Tiger’s announcement has set the golf world on fire! I’m personally not really a serious Golf fan, but I have followed Tiger’s career and I’m pretty excited for him as a person that he has regained his health and strength enough to live a normal life. I don’t imagine that he will ever win another Major. He may not ever compete in another Major for that matter. However, as a father, I think it’s very cool that he is pushing himself to play in this tournament seemingly for the sake of his son.

For over 20 years, the PNC Father/Son Challenge has provided an opportunity for professional golfers to play competitive golf alongside their kids, showcasing the bonds and memories that are created both inside and outside of the ropes. In 2017, the transition of allowing the game’s younger champions to compete alongside their fathers began. In 2019, we had our first female Major Champion, Annika Sorenstam, play alongside her father for an unforgettable week in golf history.
In 2020, the tournament changed its name to the PNC Championship to reflect what the event has evolved in to over the years and accurately represent the current field composition and stature. Tiger Woods’ life has had many parts, both in his career and his personal life. I feel like this will be a memorable moment it both parts. Playing the sport he loves with his so n, whether they are good or not, will be something to look back on as a moment of triumph. To have been through all that he has, being slated as the greatest ever early in career and the rollercoaster that followed. He has been loved and hated, feared and written off, but at some point we just need to let the man be. Let him make his memories and just acknowledge that he is human. A human who has reached the peak of his sport and then fallen from grace just to comeback and show how strong of a person he is. Looking at him coming back, even just to walk again, is amazing. Soak it in and realize that even if he is not the athlete we remember him as, this is a great story and a great memory he will always have with his son.

I don’t like Tiger never have! But, That dude is like a superhero. He keeps bouncing back again and again. And it is a feel good story to see him and his son on the course together again. My dad and I played basketball together all the time as a kid, he even coached my teams in my younger years. Those were priceless memories.

I love golf and Tiger Woods is good for golf even in a tournament like this that doesn’t mean much for the tour standing. Just glad to see Ironman back on the greens
