Cam’s Coming Home!!!

ESPN and other media outlets are reporting that Cam Newton has re-signed with the Panthers pending a physical. As a Panther’s fan for the last 26 years, I am ecstatic about Cam’s return. I may just be in my feelings because I’m a nostalgia junkie who has a hard time letting go of the past, but I’m hopeful that Cam can help the Panthers right the ship. Christian McCaffrey is expected to return from IR this week! Things are starting to look positive for the 4-5 Panthers. They currently sit at #8 in the conference, but they are only seperated by one win from the Saints who sit in the 6th spot in the NFC. I could be dreaming, but for the first time since week 4, I’m excited to watch the Panthers play!!!

What are your thoughts? Will Cam’s return make any difference in the outcome of the season for the Panthers? Share your opinion in the comment section below!

  1. I think Cam back to the Panthers is a good move because he is already comfortable with the fan base. I think it’s interesting because not many players get to play for the team that released them and have them potentially benefit from his efforts to show the franchise they made a mistake letting him go. I think it all comes down to health. If he can stay healthy, and they can keep Cam upright, them he can have a big impact. They game him a pretty good contract for what they need him for. I wonder if he plays well if Darnold will start again when he comes off of injury. Also, if he plays well and they don’t turn back to Darnold, what does that mean about both of their futures? Is there a chance they let a good Cam go again? Is there a chance they move on from Darnold after his first season? Is there a chance they move on from both and go a different direction? Of course this all depends on whether Cam is a factor, but if he is this could leave much to discover in regards to the Panthers’ future plans surrounding the starting QB position…

    1. I think Cam will be healthy since he’s had so much time off. Darnold wasn’t lighting the world on fire, so I think if Cam is a little better than average and helps to produce a few wins in Darnold’s absence the Panthers will stick with him for now. I think either way they cut ties with Darnold at end of the season and then pick up a QB in the draft to build around for the future.

      1. You are both crazy. Cam Newton got cut by the Panthers and the Patriots because he is horrible in the locker room and his skills have dimished. Sam is hands down better than Cam Newton. No way Can starts if Sam is healthy. Cam may not even start if Sam is out, there are other QB’s on the roster already.

  2. It was said that part of the reason the Patriots didn’t want Cam was because he would be a distraction as a backup. Cam has a big personality! This is Cam back in Carolina we’re talking about. There is no way they bring him back and don’t even give him a chance to start. They have PJ Walker, who most people have never heard of, and Matt Barkley. Matt Barkley hasn’t been relevant since he was at USC. If they start either of them without giving Cam a chance, the fans will go crazy. How you going to bring your fan favorite, former MVP, and team leader in most if not all QB stats back and not play him? The backlash would be insane and all the fans who were so excited today would be booing the team to no end!! Darnold has been a letdown of late and to ignore that would be a mistake. The season started with little expectation and then the expectation rose and Darnold has disappeared. He had 172 yards and 3 picks last game. Surely Cam is better than that, even though he is not the same player he used to be. If you’re the Panthers front office, you don’t make this move for a backup. If that’s what they wanted to do, then they needed to go get someone that didn’t already have ties to the team because honestly Cam (diminished skill set and all) being signed for the sole purpose of being a backup makes absolutely no sense at all!!

  3. Well, folks, I don’t have a dog in this fight besides being a football fan. So I have nothing to gain by being biased. Truth be told, Cam is washed up. He is over his prime and is a marketing machine that will fill seats while Carolina tries to find an OC, HC and QB…. #itiswhatitis RG
